The school was named after a well-respected elder who was an inspiration to all and who have lived to be 114. The shape of the school represents a fish, which has sustained the people of Nemaska for generations.

The language of instruction is Cree and is taught from pre-k to secondary 5. English is taught from grade 1 to secondary 5. French (Second Language) is taught from secondary 1 to 5. Every school follows the GVC (Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum).

The vision of École Luke Mettaweskum School is to provide an environment that is based on respect and care for everyone and everything through the honoring of Cree teachings and values.

We, as a school, will set high standards of learning and celebrate the achievements of each individual.

School Mission Statement

École Luke Mettaweskum School will encourage a desire for knowledge and a love for learning. We strive to help students become confident, outspoken, and committed to being responsible members in the community with a rich awareness of Cree heritage.
